Russell Wilson's time in Denver has come to an early end as the Broncos have announced his release before the 2019–20 season.
This move was made in response to the team's lackluster on-field performance,
even with Wilson's expensive price tag and lofty expectations.
Over the next two seasons, the Broncos will incur dead money against their salary cap totaling £85 million due to the transfer.
Wilson joined the team in March 2022, but his performance did not live up to
expectations as the Broncos finished last in the AFC West in 2022 and were not in the running for the playoffs in 2023.
Wilson was a successful Super Bowl player with the Seattle Seahawks,
but his tenure in Denver was tainted by inconsistent play, which finally caused him to leave.
