Set in Paris’ criminal underground, “Furies” explores themes of vengeance and has an intriguing plot. The series introduces viewers to a diverse cast of people, predominantly women of varying ages, who live in a society governed by godfathers and violence. However, even in this chaotic landscape, fascinating male figures leave their mark.
Episode 1 sets the stage perfectly, transporting viewers into the world of Lena, played by the outstanding Lena El Arbi. Leena is seeking relief from her family’s criminal heritage, but her relationship with a police officer puts her in a difficult position. When tragedy strikes and her father is brutally murdered, Lena embarks on a journey for vengeance, eventually targeting a mysterious figure dubbed Fury.
As Lena dives deeper into the criminal underbelly, she learns the true identity of Fury, played beautifully by Marina Fois. The series expertly combines action-packed sequences with beautiful choreography, reminiscent of critically praised films like “The Raid” and “Ballerina.” While explosions and shootouts generate thrilling moments, it’s the meticulously choreographed hand-to-hand fighting scenes that truly shine.
“Furies” showcases the ability and passion of its founders, Jean-Yves Arnaud and Yoann Legave, who also act as showrunners. Cédric Nicolas-Troyan, Samuel Bodin, and Laura Weaver direct the series, which stars Lina El Arbi, Marina Fois, Mathieu Kassovitz, and Steve Tienchau, among others.
Overall, “Furies” is a spectacular experience for aficionados of action, crime, and mystery. While some moments may stand out more than others, the series as a whole provides a riveting story accompanied by captivating performers.
